• My Game of the Year for 2009.

This may be a bit late, but I didn't feel an urgent need to proclaim to the world my choice for 2009, as I would just be another small voice in the crowd of "experts", eager to clue you in on the last word in bets game of the year. Alas, i felt that there might be 1 or 2 people out there that actually would be interested in my opinion on the subject, so here we are.

I've decided to go with a top three, starting with the third choice and working my way to the king. My criteria was simple. The games I've chosen had to go above and beyond in polish, story, and overall immersion. I'm not a fan of the current trend of poorly implemented, or just plain half-assed games that seem to flood the market these days. With no further delay, here is my list.

    3. Borderlands. (ps3/xbox360)
This game, as far as I'm concerned, is the sleeper hit of the year. It flew largely under the radar, but delivered in force, in playability and fun factor. The ease of playing with up to 3 of your buddies in the campaign portion of the game was just cool as hell, and really added to the experience. The graphic style chosen gave the game a whole different feel, along with the weapons system. It was like playing the lottery every time you came to a munitions box. This game in my view was easily a 9 out of 10.

    2. Infamous (PS3)

Again, with my list being campaign biased, I would have to say I was addicted to this game for almost a month. The climbing system, coupled with the powers you unlock along the way, make you feel like a kid in a candy store throughout. They acheived great balance, so that you were never really in any danger of being bored by the game. There was always that new power within your reach to put you back on cloud nine. The environments were really well done, giving the game a true sandbox feel. I would recommend this game to anyone.

    1. Uncharted 2 (PS3)

This really should be able to go without explanation. Anyone who has played this game is aware of the unsurpassed level of polish and story telling that they acheived here. It was a game that delighted the senses and touched the little kid in me at every turn. It was a fairly long game by todays standards but I was sorry to see it end. The graphics, rather than being the main attraction to an otherwise hollow game, simply added to the impressiveness of the package as a whole. If you haven't played this game yet, you need to get your head examined, because its simply amazing.

There. That's my list for 2009. I know what you're thinking.............where is Modern Warfare 2? Not on my list. In my opinion, most of the new features they brought to the table on this game merely detracted from its overall appeal, when compared to Call of Duty 4. It has taken a turn for the casual that I'm not a big fan of, and the single player, while decent, feels like more of the same to me. If this was 2007, it would be right there, but standards have been raised. I would say that the Spec Ops portion of the game is quite fun, but even this feels like an after thought, limiting gameplay to two players only. Give us four player co-op. That's the standard today.

Whether you agree with me or not, I want you to offer your own input in the comment section. Remember this is your site too, and I assure you I will read what you have to say. Also, make sure to visit our forums. I'm hoping it will be a place where we can better get to know eachother as time goes by.

Make sure to check out next weeks blog. "Biggest flops of 2009". Those of you that know my track record will probably have a pretty good idea where that one is going.
